Gabon Political Shakeup: Former PGD Official Resigns Citing Ethical Concerns
Libreville, Gabon – Gabon’s political landscape is shifting as Guy Bertrand Mapangou, a prominent former member of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), has announced his resignation. In a statement issued last November, Mapangou cited ethical concerns as the driving force behind his decision to step down from the ruling party, marking another significant departure for the PDG following the resignation of Alain-Claude Bilie Le Nze and other officials.
Mapangou, who served as a Senior Personal Representative to Gabon’s Transitional President and founded the political association "Le Rassemblement" (LR) last September, emphasized his desire for autonomy. "For ethical reasons and to preserve the virtues surrounding my political promise," he stated, "I have a moral obligation not to be stampeded by the CEO anymore.”
The former minister and deputy leader for Fougamou expressed concern that his continued association with the PDG would conflict with his commitment to supporting Gabon’s new progressive values. Mapangou plans to focus his efforts on "Le Rassemblement," aiming to build unity among the people of Tsamba-Magotsi, his political stronghold.
During a recent visit to Fougamou, Mapangou urged residents to unite behind the CTRI, Gabon’s transitional authority. His message appears to resonate, as evidenced by recent progress on local development projects. This departure from the PDG marks a potentially significant development in Gabon’s transition to a new political era.
