Tetris Classic Crashes onto Nintendo Switch Online
Hold onto your tetrominoes, gamers – the classic NES version of Tetris is coming to Nintendo Switch Online next week.
This nostalgic blast from the past, originally launched in the 1980s for Nintendo’s iconic entertainment system, was teased earlier this year during a "Tetris Forever Partner Direct" trailer. Nintendo officially confirmed the release date on their social media (formerly known as Twitter), thrilling throwback game enthusiasts.
Starting December 12th, Switch Online subscribers can test their puzzle-solving skills by fitting falling tetrominoes into neat horizontal lines.

In addition to the global release, Japanese Switch Online subscribers will also gain access to the NES version of Tetris on the same date.
To celebrate the arrival of classic Tetris, Nintendo has also announced a special event for Tetris 99 players, running from this week until next. Gamers can unlock a free Tetris theme by racking up 100 points during the event.

Remember those early Donkey Kong Land games? Those hit the Switch Online library late last month, along with Mercs, Vectorman, and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron. While Nintendo typically adds multiple games to its Switch Online library at once, it seems the NES version of Tetris will stand alone as its own special release. However, knowing Nintendo’s tendency to surprise fans, we might get some extra retro treats added alongside Tetris.
