Mariners Promote Joel Firman To Assistant General Manager

Mariners Elevate Key Staff As Team Sets its Sights on Continued Success

The Seattle Mariners are reaffirming their commitment to building a championship caliber team, announcing several notable promotions within their front office on Monday. These changes signal a clear path for the franchise, focusing on depth and expertise across all aspects of baseball operations.

Andy McKay, a ten-year veteran of the Mariners organization, received a well-deserved boost, adding the title of Vice President to his existing role as Assistant General Manager. Joel Firman, who has dedicated 11 seasons to the team, also ascends to the Assistant General Manager position, joining McKay in a shared leadership role.

This dynamic duo will report directly to President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto and General Manager Justin Hollander, solidifying their standing as key decision-makers within the organization.

"He’ll be in charge of overseeing the M’s advance scouting work (game planning for opposing teams) while continuing to assume a key role in the team’s research and development," the team’s press release stated.

Scott Hunter, a key figure in the Mariners’ amateur scouting department, will now hold the title of VP of Amateur Scouting, while David Hesslink has earned a promotion to VP of Baseball Product Development.

Firman’s rise through the ranks is particularly noteworthy. Starting his career as an intern with the New York Yankees and transitioning to the Mariners’ analytics department, Firman embodies the "homegrown talent" narrative often celebrated in Seattle sports.

These internal promotions reflect the Mariners’ dedication to nurturing talent both on and off the field.
