Indian Investor Sparks Debate with Plan to Relocate to Singapore
A Goa-based investor has ignited a fiery debate online by publicly announcing his plans to leave India for Singapore in 2025. Citing high taxes, worsening pollution, and a lack of accountability from politicians, he argued on social media that staying in India was no longer a viable option. While he encourages others with financial resources to consider the move, his comments have received a mixed bag of reactions.
"I will leave India and permanently shift to Singapore in 2025. Documentation is in process," he wrote. "I cannot stand the politicians here. Can’t pay 40% tax and breathe polluted air while nobody takes accountability."
He further advised, "My honest suggestion would be that if you have good money, please leave."
The investor’s bold declaration sparked a flurry of online discussion. Some users questioned his approach, urging him to contribute to improving India rather than abandoning it.
"Why don’t you pitch in person for the betterment of the country rather than leaving?" one commenter questioned, while another suggested exploring alternative locations within India:
"I think for clean air you have to move to Iceland or into any Indian mountains, you can do your any work remotely because satellite internet is available everywhere also the food and people will be great. Choose your health, happy life. Don’t leave Mumbai for Singapore."
Others pointed out the potential downsides of relocating to Singapore, highlighting high living costs and strict regulations. One individual with experience living in Singapore shared their perspective:
"Singapore will tax you even more, just in a different way. The standard of living is so high and it’s impossible to buy property there unless you’re stinking rich. You’ll still need a PR which means working like a slave in an ironclad dictatorship for 10 years. You have minimal rights there. Buying a car? Forget it!"
Another argued that the investor’s criticisms were representative of a broader trend:
"Yeah! We are 1.4bn idiots living here? A few thousand have the means to go away from home and live in clean and efficient cities but without any soul. They go away and then start looking for mixing up with fellow Indians."
Interestingly, one commenter who had lived in Singapore for six years expressed his desire to return to India:
"I living here in Singapore Since last 6 year the taxes are low but the cost of living is too high. More than 60% of income goes in house rental and children education and you are away from every thing parents and friends so not worth it. Me moving back to India Finally."
This isn’t the first time the investor has vocalized his desire for a change of scenery. In an earlier post, he argued that a relatively modest salary of 50,000 rupees wouldn’t provide a comfortable life in India,
He suggested that the same amount could offer a significantly better lifestyle in Bali or Thailand, urging those in similar financial situations to "leave as soon as you can."
The investor’s incendiary remarks have sparked a passionate debate about the challenges facing India, the allure of greener pastures, and the complex motivations behind emigration.
