“Le Monde” reveals why France is “not committed” to arresting Netanyahu –

Yesterday’s Paris report is a hard blow to the International Criminal Court (ICC), especially from one of its founding states, which also prides itself on being the “home of human rights”, as the French newspaper “Le Monde” reports today.

As he notes, with a sibyl declaration, on Wednesday, November 27, France undermined the authority of this judicial body and reduced the weight of the arrest warrant that had been issued six days earlier by its judges against him Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the context of the war in Gaza.

The reason he put “water in his wine” was Paris

All this, according to confirmed sources, happened in order not to fall out with the Israeli Prime Minister, who questioned the role of the mediator claimed by Paris in the search for a ceasefire in Lebanon which was announced on Tuesday night by the Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron.

After several confused comments, France has clarified its position on the arrest warrant issued against the head of the Israeli government by the ICC.

While confirming that “will respect its international obligations” and that the Rome Statute, the founding text of the Court, “requires full cooperation with the International Criminal Court”the press release published by the Quai d’Orsay (French Ministry of Foreign Affairs) underlines that this text “it also provides that a State may not be compelled to act in a manner inconsistent with its obligations under international law with respect to the immunities of States not parties to the ICC.”

A reference to Article 98 of the Rome Statute. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued: “Such immunities apply to Prime Minister Netanyahu and other relevant ministers and should be taken into account if the ICC requests their arrest and extradition.” Since the Jewish state has not signed the Rome Statute, it has not waived the immunities of its current leaders, unlike the 124 member states of the ICC, including France.
