NHL Fines Skinner $2,000 For Embellishment
New York Rangers forward Jeff Skinner found himself facing the consequences of theatrics on the ice, as the NHL handed down a $2,000 fine for embellishment.
This fine marks the second citation Skinner received for diving or exaggerating contact during gameplay. The NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, which meticulously reviews all games, flags incidents deemed worthy of penalties that weren’t called on the ice.
Skinner was initially warned following an incident in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes on October 22nd.
"For head coaches, each FINE issued to a player on his club counts toward his total. Four FINES issued to one player or a club collectively results in the head coach receiving his first fine," the NHL stated.
The second citation, which triggered the monetary penalty, stemmed from a play during the second period of a game against the Rangers on November 23rd.
The NHL’s dedication to player safety and fair play is evident in its commitment to penalizing embellishment. The fine money is allocated to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
