Health: 113,000 visits to mobile clinics that provided family planning services in 2024

Egypt Expands Access to Reproductive Healthcare Services, Reaching Millions

In a significant effort to improve women’s health across Egypt, the Ministry of Health and Population alongside the Ministry of Local Development announced a series of initiatives aimed at increasing access to family planning and reproductive healthcare.

Throughout 2024, mobile clinics traversed remote and underserved areas, providing essential services to over 1.3 million individuals. "In 2024, (113,301) mobile clinics were visited to provide services," the Ministry of Health and Population revealed. A staggering 416,999 individuals were new beneficiaries, highlighting the significant impact of these outreach programs.

Supplementing these efforts, a unique project dubbed "Our Days are Better" saw 8,641 reproductive health convoys deployed across the country. Female doctors trained in family planning and reproductive health provided vital care to over 741,626 individuals, with 122,994 accessing these services for the first time.

The Ministry also recognized the need to address medical gaps in established healthcare units. Through the Visiting Doctor System, over 61,692 visits were conducted to units lacking sufficient personnel, reaching 2,165,815 beneficiaries, including an impressive 713,635 new patients.

Underscoring its commitment to comprehensive care, the Ministry expanded the range of family planning methods available.

"New types of family planning methods have been added to the cafe methods (hormonal IUDs, dendritic IUDs, third-generation monopills, fourth-generation combination pills, and self-injected single injections under the skin)," the Ministry stated. To further enhance accessibility, NGOs and other organizations now receive family planning methods at subsidized prices tailored to their needs.

Emphasizing the importance of consistent messaging, the Ministry is developing a unified guide for health communication covering critical topics such as family planning, reproductive health, maternal and child health, nutrition, and the prevention of infectious and chronic diseases.

These initiatives demonstrate Egypt’s commitment to improving women’s health outcomes and empowering them to make informed choices about their reproductive well-being. The program’s success in reaching millions suggests a positive step towards a healthier and more equitable future for Egyptian women.
