Indonesian Pop Star Ayu Ting Ting Rejects Political Overture
Popular Indonesian dangdut singer Ayu Ting Ting recently revealed she turned down an offer to enter politics. While she didn’t specify who extended the invitation, Ting Ting firmly stated that politics wasn’t the right field for her father.
"No need (for my father), just take care of the shop, I’m old, don’t need much style. Our life is like this, thank God. Just run the existing business," she explained in an interview in Depok, West Java on December 1, 2024.
Ting Ting’s father is currently focused on running a food stall business with his wife, Umi Kalsum.
When asked if she had received similar political offers, Ting Ting confirmed she had, but remained resolute in her stance.
"If it’s offered, it’s definitely there, right? I don’t have any talent there either. I’m not interested in it either. I don’t understand, if I ask for something I don’t know. Just focus on work," she said with a smile.
Interestingly, despite resisting politics herself, Ting Ting recently participated in campaign events leading up to regional elections. She explained that these events were local and relatively close to her home, making participation feasible.
"Yesterday I went out of town but in a nearby area in Sulawesi, usually it is very far and it takes a long time, but yesterday, thank God, I was close," she shared.
