Indonesia Aims for Ambitious Housing Program
Indonesia’s new Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), announced an ambitious plan to build 3 million homes annually. While details remain scant, the initiative aims to address the nation’s substantial housing shortage, estimated at 11-12 million homes.
"I will specifically convey this, so that the statistics are not wrong. It is clear that there is indeed a 3 million housing program. All of this certainly needs to be done step by step,” AHY stated.
While he didn’t disclose the exact number of homes to be built next year, AHY, who also heads the Democratic Party, promised a clearer picture following discussions with Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait.
"Later, we will explain the step-by-step process before I specifically disclose the total number of houses to be built," AHY added.
This ambitious housing program is part of a larger effort to address Indonesia’s housing crisis.
jugó un papel crucial en esta iniciativa.
"We want to build 3 million (homes) every year, (for a total of) 15 million over 5 years," stated Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the Housing Task Force and younger brother of President-elect Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the long-term vision.
To execute this massive undertaking, the Indonesian government is forging partnerships with state-owned enterprises and private sector players.
Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo indicated that for next year, the target is to construct 800,000 housing units through this collaborative approach.
“To build 3 million houses with a target in 2025, the initial target is 800,000,” Kartika confirmed.
The housing initiative encompasses both urban and rural areas and includes a mix of vertical residences and landed houses, striving to cater to diverse needs.
AHY highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting "tens of millions" lacking decent housing.
While the project faces significant challenges, AHY’s commitment and the collaboration with the private sector signal a serious effort to tackle Indonesia’s housing deficit.
