I’ve had an amazing career. It is very difficult to compete with Nole, to play Grand Slam finals against them, but for me it was a privilege to spend my entire career at the same time as the three greatest players in history.. Various things happened that were difficult to deal with, but today is such a special day and I want to enjoy it. I may never have an event like this again. It’s part of my story, but the good memories and victories I’ve gained outweigh everything else. My story is more special because of the injuries I suffered. When I was at my best or fighting with them in the rankings, something bad happened to me and I had to start from scratch. It’s part of my story and that’s what makes it a little more special. ” he admitted.
Happy that I was able to win titles against the big-3
Del Potro was one of the few players who managed to win a Grand Slam in the same era of the three greatest players in history, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. **WTN: Juan Martin, that was a powerful display of emotion on court today. How are you feeling now,after officially saying goodbye to professional tennis?**
**del Potro:** (chuckles softly) To be honest,a bit drained. It was incredibly intense,much more so than any Grand slam final. Knowing that every point, every rally, could be my last… it was overwhelming. But the crowd,the atmosphere,Novak’s presence,it made everything truly special.
**WTN: You’ve achieved so much in your career – a US Open title, Olympic medal, victories over legends like Federer and Nadal. Which accomplishment are you most proud of when looking back?**
**Del Potro:** Each victory is dear to me, but the US Open title in 2009 will always hold a particular place in my heart. It was a dream come true, the culmination of years of hard work. The roar of the crowd when I hit that final shot… that feeling is something I’ll cherish forever.
**WTN: You’ve faced numerous setbacks due to injuries throughout your career. Did those challenges ever make you question your decision to play professional tennis?**
**Del Potro:** Many times. There were moments when the pain was unbearable, when I felt like giving up. But the love for the sport, the passion I have for competing, always pushed me to try again. The support of my family, my team, and the fans also played a crucial role. They kept me believing.
**WTN: Today, you shared the court with Novak Djokovic in your final match. What was it like playing alongside him?**
**Del Potro:** Djokovic is a true champion, both on and off the court.He was incredibly generous to accept my invitation, and his presence added an extra layer of meaning to this occasion. It was a privilege to share the court with him one last time.
**WTN: What’s next for Juan Martin del Potro? What are your plans for life after tennis?**
**Del Potro:** (smiles) I haven’t thought too far ahead just yet. For now, I want to enjoy this moment, reflect on my career, and spend time with my loved ones.
Perhaps I’ll pursue some opportunities in tennis, maybe coaching or commentary.But I’m also looking forward to exploring new passions and discovering what else life has in store for me.
