Hope Springs Eternal: Saddil Ramdani Eyes Indonesian National Team Return
Despite almost a year without a call-up, Sabah FC winger Saddil Ramdani remains hopeful of reclaiming his spot on the Indonesian national team. While his last appearance for the Garuda dated back to November 2023, during a 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Philippines, Saddil clings to the dream of donning the Red and White uniform once more.
Before that, he had participated in preparations for the 2023 Asian Cup, even featuring in a friendly against Libya. Unfortunately, he missed the final cut for the tournament.
Saddil’s absence from coach Shin Tae-yong’s recent team selections, including the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Championship (AFF Cup) squad, hasn’t dampened his spirits. “If they get the opportunity, of course as Indonesian citizens, Indonesian players as well, anyone who is called to be a player for the Indonesian national team will indeed be proud,” said Saddil in a recent statement.
He further emphasized a shared desire among Indonesian players: "Anybody, myself and other players. Because it’s not only me who wants (to join the Indonesian national team), but definitely every player for their country to protect it."
Saddil’s experience is a valuable asset to any national team.
With 26 caps and two goals to his name, his speed on the wing and precise passing ability have earned him a reputation as a reliable force.
Even though his name is currently absent from the national team radar, Saddil recognizes the progress made under Coach Shin Tae-yong and praises PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir for his positive contributions to
Indonesian football.
