Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars in Expired Ayurvedic Medicines Seized Across Store
Andhra Pradesh, India – A massive crackdown on Ayurvedic medical shops across Andhra Pradesh has resulted in the seizure of over $80,000 worth of expired drugsand medicines lacking proper selling licenses. The raids, conducted by a joint force comprised of Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) and Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) officials, targeted stores in 26 districts.
The operation, led by Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement), Harish Kumar Gupta, saw 25 specialized teams fan out across the region, uncovering a staggering 2,599 types of compromised Ayurvedic products.
"Stern action will be taken against those who sell expired drugs," stated Mr. Gupta, emphasizing the stringent measures authorities plan to enforce. He added, the sweep is just the beginning of an ongoing effort to ensure consumer safety.
"We seized Ayurvedic medicines which had expired and those which did not have a valid license for sale," Gupta explained. "The value of the seized medicines will be around 61 lakhs."
The widespread operation led to the filing of three cases under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act 1954. Two cases were filed in Nandyal and one in Tirupati.
