How to Stay Fit and Festive Through the Holiday Season
The holiday season is often synonymous with delicious feasts and joyful gatherings, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle amidst the tempting treats can feel like a challenge. Fear not, fitness enthusiasts! With some expert advice and a dash of self-discipline, you can enjoy the festivities without derailing your health goals.
Kijon Lee, Personal Trainer at Fitness 360, emphasizes the importance of mindful eating. "
Try to spread out your meals and not eat 3,000 calories at once. I know that when you sit down, you want to eat everything at once. Go and have some turkey and gravy and kind of just relax a little bit. Space out your meal as best as you can,” Lee advised.
Lee also recommends combatting post-meal fatigue with strategic tactics. "If I eat a lot tonight, I’m just going to go ahead and fast as long as I can. So If I eat at 5:00 tonight, I won’t eat until maybe 5:00 tomorrow. Go for a walk. Just walking will speed up the metabolic process so you don’t feel lethargic and just want to do nothing for the rest of the week,” he suggested.
Worried about squeezing in workouts amidst the busy holiday schedule? Lee encourages incorporating simple, effective exercises right at home. “Doing basic squats, doing the lunges with bodyweight, and the curtsy lunge, they’re phenomenal. So you do not need to take a lot of time. The spry bands, you know, you can do a plethora of exercises as in the demonstration. Don’t let time, don’t let location, and don’t let cost be a factor,” explained Lee.
Ultimately, Lee believes consistency is key to achieving fitness success. "I’ve learned, being a trainer for 35 years, that if you find something that you love, you’ll stick with it. That’s how you stay consistent and get results. Find something you love, move the body, mind, and spirit,” he shared.

### mindful Eating: Savor the Season
**World-today-News:** The holidays often feel like an endless parade of delicious food. How can individuals approach holiday meals mindfully without feeling deprived?
**Kijon Lee:** “It’s all about pacing yourself.
Think of it like savoring a fine wine rather than gulping it down. Enjoy each bite, chew slowly, and really experience the flavors.Try spreading out your meals – have a little turkey, then some stuffing, then go back to the turkey. This prevents that ‘food coma’ feeling and helps you enjoy each dish more.”

**Kijon Lee:** “I recommend strategic fasting. If you have a big dinner at 5 p.m., consider waiting until 5 p.m. the next day for your next meal. This gives your body time to digest and reset. A brisk walk after eating can also do wonders. Even a 15-20 minute stroll will boost your metabolism and prevent that overwhelming feeling of lethargy.”

And don’t underestimate the power of resistance bands. Thay’re versatile, portable, and affordable, allowing for a wide range of exercises.”

**Kijon Lee:** ”Find something you genuinely enjoy!
If you dread going for runs, don’t force yourself to do it. Maybe you love dancing, swimming, or hiking.
the key is to choose activities that bring you joy and make you want to move your body. Remember, fitness shoudl be a festivity of your capabilities, not a punishment. “
