From Temperamental Talent to Team Leader: Chennedy Carter Recognized for Growth in China
Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter has always been known for her fiery passion on the court. Her explosive scoring prowess earned her a breakout WNBA season last year, averaging an impressive 17.5 points on 48.7% shooting. Now playing for Wuhan Shengfen in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA), Carter’s strengths are accompanying a newfound maturity, earning her a unique "Good Temper Award" from her team.
Carter’s transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed. "As we all know, Carter is a passionate athlete with a hot temper at times, which has become a ‘double-edged sword’ that restricts her development," Wuhan Shengfen’s official announcement read.
The team highlighted her significant progress: "However, this season, she effectively controlled her emotions and put more energy into the game itself. The number of times she argued with referees and opponents has significantly decreased. She can laugh off fierce fouls and sometimes even take the initiative to appease teammates who are out of control, showing her leadership qualities.”
Her coaches recognized Carter’s commitment to improvement, saying,
"Our club has always advocated respecting referees and opponents, and Carter’s transformation is in line with this concept. Although the team lost to Liaoning 82:87 on the road on November 28, our club still gave her a 10,000 yuan ‘Good Temper Award’ in recognition of her achievements in emotional management. We hope she will continue to strengthen her emotional management, set an example on both offense and defense, and give advice to young people, turning her innate passion into the team’s progress.”
The award, valued at approximately $1,380, serves as a testament to Carter’s personal growth, both on and off the court.
In addition to her behavioral advancements, Carter’s performance in the WCBA has been nothing short of stellar.
She is leading the league in scoring with an astonishing 28.8 points per game, while also contributing 7.3 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.3 steals.
Carter’s impact is undeniable, further solidifying her reputation as a rising star in the global basketball scene.
