INFOSAN (International Food Safety Authorities Network, currently 189 member countries) is a consultative body established by WHO/FAO in 2004 to quickly and accurately exchange information in international food safety emergencies and prevent the spread of hazardous foods.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Minister Oh Yoo-kyung) has been hosting the Asia Phosphoric Acid International Conference since 2012 to prevent the spread of hazardous foods by quickly sharing information between countries in the event of a food safety accident, and this 10th meeting is held. It is jointly held with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
About 50 people from 26 countries, including Korea, Singapore, and Japan, will attend this meeting and will be held simultaneously in person and through real-time video conferencing.
The 26 countries include Korea, Singapore, Australia, Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, Mongolia, Bhutan, Nepal, Marshall Islands, Fiji, Samoa, and Solomon Islands.
In particular, nine countries in the Western Pacific region, including Guam and Fiji, will attend this meeting for the first time, and it is expected to be an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation system in the food safety field in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the first day, starting with an opening speech by Minister of Food and Drug Safety Oh Yoo-kyung, Director Park Hee-ra of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s Risk Information Division will deliver a keynote speech on the topic of Korea’s efforts to strengthen INFOSAN in Asia. In addition, the WHO Infosan Secretariat will announce the results of Infosan activities in 2024.

On the second day, a mock exercise will be conducted to inspect each country’s crisis response system assuming a hazardous food outbreak, and a tour of the Food Poisoning Bacteria Resource Center, Advanced Central Analysis Room, and Non-clinical Resource Center operated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will be held.
