Fatal N11 Collision Claims Life of Former Wexford Hurler
Wexford Town, Co. Wexford – A multi-vehicle collision on the N11 near Castlesow Junction during rush hour on Wednesday evening claimed the life of a Wexford man, leaving the community in mourning. The deceased has been identified locally as 57-year-old Eddie Boarders, a former Wexford inter-county hurler and beloved pillar of the community.
The tragic incident occurred around 5 p.m. on the busy national road, involving two cars and a truck. Emergency services responded swiftly, but Mr. Boarders, the driver of one of the cars, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Another individual was transported to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two others received treatment for minor injuries at the scene.
A Life Dedicated to Service
Mr. Boarders, originally from Church View Joseph Street in Wexford Town, was a well-respected member of the Faythe Harriers GAA Club. He was a key player on the Wexford team that won a Leinster Minor Final medal in 1985, demonstrating his athletic prowess and dedication to sport.
Beyond the hurling field, Eddie was known for his compassion and commitment to helping others. He dedicated his career to working with children with special needs at Nua Healthcare, where he made a profound impact on the lives of many.

Mr. Boarders is survived by his wife Caroline and their three children, Warren, Jaslyn, and Kallum.
Funeral Arrangements
Mr. Boarders’ remains will repose at JJ Kearney’s funeral home on Selskar Street. The public is invited to pay respects on Saturday, November 30, and Sunday, December 1, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on each day.
His funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street, on Monday, December 2, at 12 noon, followed by burial at St. Ibars Cemetery in Crosstown.
Investigation Ongoing
Gardaí are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. One man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co. Wexford.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant dashcam footage from the N11 between 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, to come forward. Information can be provided to the local Garda station or through their confidential line.
