Cuenca citizen Paola Q., 22 years old, will receive treatment for common B acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the Hospital Universitario Austral in Argentina, after an international referral from the IESS Azuay.
She requires a taploidentical stem cell transplanta procedure that is not performed in health homes in Ecuador.
The beneficiary will travel this Friday, November 29, to Argentina to start the procedure. Rosa S., her mother, will be the donor.

“The intervention, medical care coverage, additional expenses and air tickets, for the lThe six-month period planned for the duration of the treatment exceeds USD 152,000a benefit that, being insured by the IESS, does not represent an expense for her family, since in particular she would not be able to access this treatment,” indicated Social Security.
The IESS is the only public entity that grants international referrals for highly complex interventions for members, retirees and social security beneficiaries.
