Michael Schanze appeared in public again for the first time since the death of his partner. He is “on the right track”.
After four difficult months of grief, TV legend Michael Schanze (77) has now taken his first step back into the spotlight. At the premiere of the musical “A Christmas Story” based on Charles Dickens (1812-1870) at the Deutsches Theater in Munich, the entertainer appeared in public again for the first time after losing his long-time partner Uschi Köhl at the end of July.
“Of course, this has been a year like no other and I’m still trying to come to terms with the new situation,” the 77-year-old confessed in an interview with “RTL”. Nevertheless, he was emphatically positive as he presented himself to the photographers on the red carpet with a smile: “I would say I’m on the right track.”
Strength from the family
The popular presenter finds support primarily from his two sons and his family. “One lives in Hamburg, the other in the United States. But Florian and his family live in Munich and my brother is not far away either. And that is a source of strength for me,” revealed Schanze.
His fundamentally positive attitude helps him even in the difficult moments. “That sometimes helps me in dark moments,” he explained. For him there is only one direction – and that is forward. “But that doesn’t work if you always, always drill and ponder the past. Then the now has no chance.”
New music project gives hope
Schanze is once again optimistic about the future. With the music for the musical “A Christmas Story” he has implemented a new creative project. The former presenter of shows like “1,2 or 3” or “Kinderchatsch mit Michael” has already composed several musicals, including “Heidi” and “Bambi”. Another project is in the works.
The next Christmas will still be a difficult one for Schanze – the first without his beloved Uschi. He only has one modest wish for the future: “After what has happened this year, I only have one wish: that all my loved ones, that we stay healthy and that we stay close to each other. Then I will be very happy. “
His partner died suddenly in the summer
Uschi Köhl died completely unexpectedly on July 29th. In an interview with the magazine “Bunte” at the beginning of August, Schanze said: “Uschi died of a cerebral hemorrhage, there is no cure for it. I found her motionless in our winter garden. The emergency doctor told me that Uschi had no chance. Even if I was next to her would have confessed and the doctor to it.” There had been no warning signs beforehand; the death of his partner had struck him “like a lightning strike”.
