Artist Mohamed Sobhi expressed his support for director Omar Zahran after he was accused of stealing the jewelry of visual artist Shalimar Sharbatly, wife of director Khaled Youssef.

Last Wednesday, Giza Court saw the first session of Zahran’s trial, and it was decided to postpone it until December 3 to review the case papers and hear Shalimar Sharbatly’s statements.
The court also decided to release the second defendant in the case, the deputy director known as “Antar”.
The incident dates back to about a year and a half ago, when Shalimar Sharbatly filed a report accusing unknown persons of stealing valuable jewelry from her apartment, which sparked a widespread controversy in the art community.
In November 2024, she submitted a new report in which she pointed the finger of blame at Omar Zahran.
The investigating authorities decided to send Omar Zahran to urgent trial after examining the report submitted by Shalimar Sharbatly and her husband Khaled Youssef. The director was detained for 4 days pending investigations before being sent to court.
