Salerno, 3 thousand requests for non-EU workers blocked

Today the Carabinieri of the Labor Protection Command and the Financial Police of Salerno have notified the Prefectures, via the Ministry of the Interior, of two provisions from the Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of Salerno. These measures concern the blocking and revocation of 3,339 requests to enter Italy for non-EU workerspresented by 142 companies operating mainly in the sectors of agriculture, construction and domestic assistance.

According to investigations, these companies were linked to criminal groups active in the Salerno area, already affected last July by measures for aiding and abetting illegal immigration and for the presentation of false job applications. On that occasion, they had been seized further one million euros in cash.

The current measures aim to interrupt any irregularity linked to the flow decrees of 2021, 2022, 2023 e 2024and allow the Prefectures of 29 Italian provinces to adopt specific measures:

  • Blocking of work permitif the procedure is still ongoing;
  • Reporting to the Consular Authoritiesif the authorization has been issued but the entry visa has not yet been issued or the foreigner has not yet entered Italy;
  • Revocation of residence permits or work contracts already grantedalso involving the competent Police Headquarters.

The investigations revealed an illicit system that used false job requests to illegally introduce foreign workers into Italy, exploiting the flow decrees for profit. Operations will continue to counter further abuse.
