Last weekend, a double day of Wheelchair Tennis aimed at children and adults took place at the Albacete Tennis Club with the aim of raising awareness and raising awareness about the concept of disability and inclusive education. Amiab and Metasport collaborated with the activity, providing wheelchairs so that all participants could get into them and begin using them.
There were also talks and practices with the 30 participants, 20 children and 10 adults who participated both on the court and in the conference given by two wheelchair tennis players, Juan José Rodríguez from Rioja and Víctor Marcén from Aragon. Both are professionals and regular participants in the City of Albacete Wheelchair Tennis Trophy, being the current champions of the tournament in the doubles category.
On Saturday, a colloquium talk took place where Rodríguez and Marcén explained the basic rules of this sporting discipline, which is relatively young in our country, as it began to be practiced a little over thirty years ago. The children were very participatory, interested in knowing the rules and the differences with conventional tennis. Teachers and participants debated and interacted for two hours about the concept of disability and motivation.
Afterwards, both children and adults had the opportunity to practice wheelchair tennis and had a great time, learning, playing and starting to play matches with professional tennis players.
With this type of conference, the Albacete Tennis Club aims to promote among its members and students of the tennis schools attitudes and values such as tolerance, respect and equality.
