The Directorate of Roads and Roads announced on Wednesday that they are starting a detailed geotechnical investigation for the Kamenná Vrata tunnel near Jílové.
Machines will start coming down to Jílové soon. Just two kilometers east of the town, an exploratory tunnel is starting to be dug. The work, worth about half a billion crowns, is expected to take about three years. “The purpose of the survey and the detailed geotechnical study is to obtain detailed information about the structure and behavior of the rock massif and thus reduce the geotechnical and economic risks when digging the highway tunnel itself,” explained Jiří Veselý, spokesman for the Directorate of Roads and Roads.
The exploration tunnel will be over 1.6 kilometers long and will be excavated from the south port of the future tunnel. It is planned near the existing road II/104 connecting Jílové u Prahy and Davli.
Excavation of the exploration tunnel itself will take 25 months. Before mining, preparatory work will be carried out for 4 months, such as the preparation of the geological work project, the preparation of the survey site and the excavation of the portal of the survey tunnel. After mining there will be an evaluation of the results and 16 months of research.
Construction of water pipes
In connection with the construction of the tunnel, local mayors have expressed concerns about groundwater loss in the past. Therefore, part of the study also includes monitoring the level of groundwater in wells, but especially in wells where the risk of mining cannot affect their level. “In this context, for preventive purposes, we are intensively preparing the implementation of new water mains in the area of Kamenná Vrata,” said the spokesperson of the Directorate of Roads and Roads Veselý, and the Minister of Transport Martin Kupka ( ODS) has also made the same commitment, according to whether the water supply network will be built before the construction of the highway, so that the local people would not be left without drinking water.
This week, a public hearing was also held on the Voračice-Václavice section. The people present were very interested in building anti-noise walls and ramps around their plots. At this stage, documents are being prepared for archaeological and pyrotechnic research. “We would like to start construction in 2027 and put it into operation within four years,” said Veselý, depending on the noise measurements that will be made after commissioning and, where there are overlaps on the borders, anti-noise measures will be added beyond the level of the walls and the walls already designed.
The association Alternativa D3 has been a long-term opponent of the construction of the highway. According to his representative, Roman Andres, critics have dozens to hundreds of comments on this category alone. “There are several thousand pages of text in the objections in total,” said Andres. In addition to problems with noise and water, he said, for example, that the construction is based on old foundations, it will be too expensive and not it makes traffic and economic sense.
