Burgas Deputy Loses Bid for Parliament Speaker

Yavor Bozhankov, who was elected as a deputy from the 2nd MIR Burgas by the PP-DB coalition, together with Daniel Laurer and Nadezhda Yordanov /whom the DB said messed up the buttons during voting/, became the reason why he was not elected chairman of the People’s assembly.

The other representatives of ITN, Vazrazhdane, MECH, APS and PP-DB collected a total of 117 votes for Silvi Kirilov, out of the required 120.

A little earlier in the day, Democratic Bulgaria announced that they would support the one-time election of Kirilov in order to unblock the work of the parliament. Bozhankov and Laurer remained the only firmly opposed members of the PP-DB.

Thus, the pain of choosing a chairman will continue even after today was the 7th unsuccessful vote. The National Assembly debates continued for over 4 hours. Many times, breaks were taken and talks were held between the parliamentary groups, but a way out of the political crisis was never found.

Apparently, Bozhankov remains a complete stranger and outsider to Burgas.

His election as the leader of the PP-DB list in the past parliamentary elections was met with real surprise among the majority of people in the district. From the local structure of the Change, I stated that Bozhankov was placed here on a quota basis.

He never raised a single question about Burgas and the region during his short visits to our city. Bozhankov will mainly be remembered for spending more time around Ukraine during the campaign than in Burgas.

A new attempt to elect the chairman will be tomorrow at 11:00.
