- 1 How did the “Continental Classic” tournament impact the championship scene this week, specifically regarding potential challengers for AEW titles?
You can read the rules for the “Continental Classic” (with a change in the final round) here.
To kick things off, MVP spoke with the Hurt Syndicate. His business card is a golden ticket. Anyone who doesn’t accept it and is too arrogant will have to suffer a fate like Swerve Strickland. MVP explained that they would win titles and use them for more money and power.
Shelton Benjamin gets the first points
(1) Shelton Benjamin bes. Mark Briscoe in der Blue League des „Continental Classic“
The Hurt Syndicate’s words were immediately put into action: Shelton Benjamin won the start of the “Continental Classic” and thus took the first three points.
Benjamin was able to evade Mark Briscoe’s Jay Driller in the closing stages and soon hit a T-bone suplex for the win.
Lashley and MVP, who were not allowed to be at ringside during the match, celebrated with Benjamin afterwards.
Mercedes Moné wants to fire Kamille, but she quits first
Mercedes Moné came to the stage with Kamille for an interview. She told Tony Schiavone to be the greatest TBS Champion of all time. Her match against Kris Statlander was described by many as the match of the year.
However, unlike her, Kamille wouldn’t do anything right. The CEO was about to fire her bodyguard. But Kamille grabbed the microphone, beat Mercedes to it and quit herself. Kamille: “Are you stupid or what? You can’t fire me! I quit!”
Moné was annoyed and Kamille ran away.
Chris Jericho remains ROH World Champion
(2) Match um die ROH-World-Heavyweight-Championship: Chris Jericho (c) bes. Tomohiro Ishii
The Japanese survived some massive hits, including the Judas Effect, followed by the Codebreaker.
Jericho later hit me with two more Judas Effects and then fell on top of Ishii due to exhaustion. Because the Japanese man’s shoulders hit the ground, Jericho was awarded the pinfall victory.
*** Swerve Strickland was about to talk about Bobby Lashley in the backstage interview when Max Caster walked by and laughed. Strickland stopped him, and Caster followed up with a cheeky line, alluding to Swerve’s burned-down house. Then Swerve attacked Caster and brutally beat him to the ground.
“Hangman” explains how “Full Gear” was supposed to end…
In an in-ring interview, “Hangman” Adam Page revealed he made a deal with Christian Cage following his loss to Jay White at “Full Gear.” Christian was scheduled to cash in after the main event at the pay-per-view. With his help, Page would have received the first title shot. According to his own statement, under these circumstances the “Hangman” could have celebrated Thanksgiving as AEW Champion: “But Christian Cage failed!”
“Hangman” emphasized his intention to hold the AEW Championship in the future: “It should never have been Swerve, Danielson or Moxley!”
“Switchblade” Jay White intervened at this point and mentioned his two victories against “Hangman” at “WrestleDream” and “Full Gear”: “If anyone has to get a title match, it’s me!” He would then love to have Page himself concede a match for the title. In other words, White was convinced that Page would not defeat him in the future.
At this point White was attacked by PAC, Page by Wheeler Yuta. White was able to defend himself against both Death Riders, but was then eliminated by “Hangman”. Marina Shafir used a suitcase against Page. White came back and even hinted at a Blade Runner against Shafir. But then Jon Moxley also appeared – and now the tide finally turned in favor of the Death Riders.
First Mox put White in a chokehold, then Marina Shafir followed up with her mother’s milk submission against “Switchblade”. PAC then hit White in the head with the suitcase.
Claudio Castagnoli gets three points
(3) Claudio Castagnoli bes. Ricochet in der Gold League des „Continental Classic“
Claudio Castagnoli ensured even more dominance for the Death Riders in his first “Continental Classic” match.
While the fans were more focused on making up new chants about both wrestlers’ hairstyles (e.g. “This is Bald” or “Bald Forever”), the catchers put on a pretty good match.
As in the previous week against Darby Allin, the Swiss ultimately proved to be clearly dominant. He sent Ricochet into the fence outside. Just before the 10 count expired, Ricochet made it back into the ring. Castagnoli then followed up with a massive clothesline and took the win.
*** Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher talked about the big win against Will Ospreay on “Full Gear.” Fletcher stated that he was better than Will Ospreay in every way. The “Proto-Star” will now win the “Continental Classic”.
MJF’s ring is on the line again in a battle royal
Adam Cole came into the ring with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett. He called MJF a “little bitch.” He promised Max that he would give him the beating of his life for what he did to Roderick Strong.
Kyle O’Reilly interrupted Cole at this point and said he wanted to make this match against MJF. Cole interrupted him and said his friends no longer had to fight his battles. Kyle replied that he wanted to make this match against MJF for Roddy, not Cole.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman followed with a video message. He was sitting at the piano in his mansion and made it clear that he didn’t want to compete against Adam Cole or Kyle O’Reilly. However, next week there will traditionally be a Battle Royal for the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Cole signed up for the battle royal right away, moments later O’Reilly followed up and said he also wanted to take part in this battle royal.
Jamie Hayter wants to buy the ticket to Japan
(4) Jamie Hayter defeated Queen Aminata in the qualifying round for the “International Women’s Cup”
“Wrestle Dynasty” will see NJPW, Stardom, CMLL, AEW and ROH bring their best talent to the ring for a joint event at the Tokyo Dome on January 5, 2025. Among other things, the “International Women’s Cup” is fought here – a 4-way with wrestlers from AEW, ROH, Stardom and CMLL.
Hayter won this hard-fought qualification against Aminata with a big boot, followed by the Hayter-Ade clothesline to win.
Afterwards it became dark in the hall, only a spotlight illuminated an empty spot on the stage. The commenters brought up that Julia Hart could be behind it.
Jamie Hayter’s opponent will be determined on December 7th at AEW Collision between Serena Deeb and Willow Nightingale. Hayter will then face the winner from Deeb/Nightingale in the qualifying round final on December 14th at AEW Collision.
The ROH participant for the match on January 5th will soon be decided in a 4-way between ROH Women’s Champion Athena, ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet, Billie Starkz and Leyla Hirsch.
The CMLL participant will be determined on December 13th in a 4-way between Zeuxis, Reyna Isis, Persephone and Sanely.
The promotion has not yet announced how the Stardom participant will be identified.
*** Mina Shirakawa spoke about what Mariah May did to her on “Full Gear” in a sitdown interview with Renee Paquette. There we would have seen the real, rather selfish Mariah. But now Mariah will get to know the real Mina. At this point the Japanese woman was taken by surprise by Mariah. She attacked Shirakawa with a bottle. The AEW Women’s Champion then declared that she wanted the match against Mina. This will now be available in two weeks during the Dynamite special edition “Winter is Coming”.
Brody King points at AEW Dynamite
(5) Brody King bes. Darby Allin in der Gold League des „Continental Classic“
Darby Allin had not yet fully recovered from the match against Claudio Castagnoli and his car crash at “Full Gear”. Brody King took advantage of his physical superiority and made Darby suffer.
However, Allin fought back and nailed his coffin drop, only to end up in the rear-naked choke. Darby attempted a roll-in but was immediately held back in the choke. Finally, Brody followed up with a Gonzo Bomb and got the win.
Claudio Castagnoli then came to the ring. He had a chair with him. Castagnoli and King looked at each other. Both will play their match in the “Continental Classic” next week.
