Traveling without lights – this can quickly lead to dangerous situations when cycling. The police in Gronau have now discovered that many people obviously underestimate this risk.

The background: On two bicycle inspection days, the officers’ focus was particularly on cyclists and Pedelec riders. They found a total of 94 traffic violations – 44 times those affected were driving without lights. Nine two-wheelers were on the wrong cycle path – as “ghost cyclists” they risked unwanted collisions.

In 51 cases, the misconduct resulted in a warning and in one case, administrative offense proceedings. A corresponding letter reached the legal guardians 42 times.

In many discussions, the officers also showed those affected the dangers associated with their behavior. The police in the Borken district will continue to carry out such priority checks in the future in order to increase road safety. (to)
