Hank Teufer, the event theater’s long-time head, is preparing to retire next year. But there can be no talk of a complete withdrawal. “Maybe I’ll come to work here once a week,” Teufer smiles. Oliver Geldener, former journalist and future director of the theater, is now at his side. Geldener, currently a commuter from Potsdam, is already looking for an apartment in Brandenburg an der Havel so that he can fully devote himself to his new job.
The new management duo is planning a number of new projects:
– “Zum Brennpunkt”: A satirical format that will take place quarterly from March 2025
– 25th anniversary of the event theater at the Brandenburg Monastery Summer 2025
– Continuation of popular events such as Comedy Spring and May Festival
The heart of their plans is the transformation of the Slavic village into Brandenburg’s new open-air stage. The Slavic Village, a replica of a Slavic settlement from the 11th century, is located directly on the Havel near the historic old town and is very easy to reach for many people from Brandenburg.
Teufer and Geldener plan to create a professional infrastructure for future events in collaboration with the city and BAS (Brandenburger Arbeitsförder- und Aufbauentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH), which operates and will continue to operate the Slavendorf. “We make advance payments and finance an investigation,” explains Teufer. Two architectural firms from Brandenburg an der Havel have already been commissioned to create concept designs.
The event theater is planning to build a stage in the village. “For us, the stage would be important for summer cinema, for example,” says Geldener. Their goal is to present the summer cinema in 2026 on a new stage in the Slavendorf. It is also important that the project should be based on solidarity. Teufer and Geldener want to bring many Brandenburg companies on board. They also don’t rule out a crowdfunding campaign or a benefit concert to achieve the goal.
With their passion for theater and music as well as Geldener’s journalistic background, the new creative dream team wants to bring a breath of fresh air into the Brandenburg cultural scene. “The Slavic village has become a place of longing for so many Brandenburgers,” says Hank Teufer. “That’s why we need to consolidate it.”
