Paul Atkins: The Next SEC Chairman?

According to a relationship Of BloombergTrump is considering Atkins as a leading candidate for this role. As of 2020, Atkins is part of the advisory council of the Digital Chamber of Commerce. He is a well-known advocate of blockchain development and investment.

If selected, Atkins will replace Gary Gensler in late January, once Trump takes office. The current one SEC chairman announced his imminent resignation earlier this month, also defending his pessimistic perspective towards the crypto market.

“Atkins is not only crypto savvy but has a deep understanding of the inner workings of the agency both as a former commissioner and a staff member. Atkins is seen as capable of establishing a pro-innovation agenda while returning the agency to a standard that many feel was lost under Gensler,” he stated la reporter di Fox Business Eleanor Terrett.

Donald Trump has promised to support cryptocurrencies through a broad plan of appointments and reforms in his next administration. Although Trump plans to relocate much of the SEC jurisdiction over cryptocurrencies to the CFTCthe SEC still remains a vital component of crypto regulation. In this role, Atkins could significantly benefit the industry.

Terrett said Atkins is currently the most likely candidate for the position, but that is not yet certain. Several other candidatesincluding those with SEC experience, are also in the running. For example, “Crypto Mom” Hester Peirce is also a possible candidate, ed is currently a commissioner of the SEC sotto Gensler.

If nothing else, these rumors have proven credible in the past. As BeInCrypto previously reported, Trump also nominated pro-crypto candidate Scott Bessent for the role of Secretary of the Treasury. If these rumors prove correct, Paul Atkins will lead a much friendlier SEC than Gensler’s.

Overall, it is now very likely that the United States will have a crypto advocate as the leader of the SEC and its regulatory control over the industry will likely loosen.
