Into the Violet Belly: The film is an experimental collaboration between the director and her mother, Thuyen Hoa, who endured a near-fatal sea voyage while fleeing her homeland after the end of the Vietnam War. The work combines family history, mythology, science fiction and digital abstraction.

I Was Never Really Here: Sam (17, German-Ghanaian) and his mother Rita are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their old friend Gifty and her son Kwesi (19, Ghanaian). When Kwesi comes into Sam’s life, Sam begins to fall in love with Kwesi and question his identity. But their budding connection is threatened by the lack of residency status of Kwesi and Gifty, who seeks help from Sam’s mother. But time is running out and Rita’s efforts cannot prevent the worst.

And what does all this have to do with us?

Sensitive Content: Behind the “sensitive content,” behind that symbol of crossed-out eyes, in that deep blur, two real eyes have been obliterated by the violence in the Middle East. This Deep Blur video is about the eyewitnesses who don’t look away, who stay there, with their helpless eyes and their shaking hands, recording the “sensitive content.” They risk their lives and fight for visibility.
