A new initiative from the Board raises awareness among Andalusian students about responsible consumption and digital hygiene

The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, through its General Directorate of Consumptionand the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, represented in the General Directorate of Participation and Educational Inclusion and the General Directorate of Innovation and Teacher Trainingheaded by their respective general directors, Milagros de Borbón, Almudena García and Francisco Javier Fernández, respectively, have held a coordination meeting to promote and coordinate consumer initiatives for students in educational centers Andalusians.

As a result of this meeting, a technical working group made up of the three general directorates is launched, whose main objectives will be the design and contribution of educational resources on digital hygiene and responsible and sustainable consumptionwhich will mean an update of the learning situations provided by the General Directorate of Consumption through its Consumo Responde platform, which will be incorporated as educational material through the ALDEA Environmental Education Program, integrated into the Program for Educational Innovation, in the centers of Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate and Vocational Training.

The content on responsible consumption is related to concepts and actions such as 3R Rule (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)the sustainable mobilitythe different types of transport and their environmental impact, consumption habits or the importance of energy saving at home.

During the meeting, emphasis was also placed on the importance of transmitting practical knowledge about digital hygiene, that is, education in responsible consumption of new technologies and internetaimed at proactively adopting and maintaining healthy and safe habits in the digital sphere. This knowledge encompasses the responsible use of technologies and digital content, which includes social networks, impact of advertising in them, the role of ‘influencers’ and ‘youtubers’ or the importance of cybersecurity.

In the Consumer website RespondsIn addition to the general content related to the rights of consumers and users, there is a specific section aimed at teachers, which includes 104 learning situations adapted to the LOMLOE, in which different key competencies are developed: Competence in Linguistic Communication (CCL), Competence in Technology, Science and Mathematics (STEM), Digital Competence (CD), Personal, Social and Learning to Learn Competence (CPSAA), Citizen Competence (CC), Entrepreneurial Competence (CE) and Competence in Cultural Awareness and Expression (CEC).

Diffusion of ‘Consumópolis’

In the meeting held between the general directorates of both ministries, it was also agreed on the involvement of educational centers in the dissemination of the school competition ‘Consumópolis’, which, aimed at teachers and students in the 5th and 6th year of Primary Education, the 1st and 2nd year of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), and the 3rd and 4th year of ESO or Basic Vocational Training, encourages, in a playful way, the critical thinking about several aspects related to consumption.

In this educational course ‘Consumópolis’ reaches its twentieth edition under the motto ‘Do you know what you consume? Join a more conscious and supportive consumption. The deadline for the registration of the teams on the Consumópolis websitewhich will end on February 28, 2025, It is the first requirement to participate in the regional phase of the school competition. Once registered, the teams, of a maximum of five students, coordinated by a teacher, have until March 25, 2025 to conclude the first phase of the contest, that is, to complete the route through the city ​​of ‘Consumópolis’.

The second phase consists of the preparation of a digital ‘newsletter’ or informative bulletin accessible ‘online’, with news about responsible consumption. The tools to be used and the format of the newsletter can be consulted in the contest instructions, and the deadline to complete and present the works is extended until April 4, 2025.
