HELSINKI United States (US) deployed two B-52H bombers to simulate weapons deployments over NATO allies; Finland.

Move to bluff Russia it came after Moscow’s new hypersonic missile; Oreshnik, attack on the Ukrainian missile factory in the city of Dnipro.

The US Air Force said its B-52H Stratofortress strategic bomber, which can carry out nuclear bombing, was on a training mission to simulate a weapons drop.

The planes were sent to England from November 8, then moved over Finland, a new NATO country that borders Russia.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country had deployed a new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) in Ukraine. The conventional warhead missile, which has a range of 3,100 miles, is said to be able to reach the capital of the European Union in a matter of minutes.

At least one of the American B-52 bomber flights was recorded by Flightradar24, an aircraft tracking service.

The plane took off from Fairford Air Base in England and flew north-east while crossing the North Sea, Denmark and the Baltic Sea before arriving in central Finland.

The American bomber was integrated with Finland’s F/A-18C Hornet fighter jet and Sweden’s JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet during training missions.

“This mission reflects Finland’s growing role in the NATO Alliance and marks another milestone in strengthening NATO’s collective defense,” the US Air Force said, as cited by News weekThursday (28/11/2024).
