Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow will play the role of the first transgender man to change his gender with surgery.
The actress will replace her colleague Charlize Theron in the film The Danish Girl, where she will play Nicole Kidman’s husband.
The story follows Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener, who found success after Einar posed as a female model for Greta to paint.
Their work gained popularity, and Greta encouraged her husband to continue dressing as a woman. This eventually led Einar to undergo sex reassignment surgery in 1931, shocking the world and jeopardizing his marriage.
The film was directed by Anand Tucker, and the screenplay adapted from the novel by David Ebershoff was written by Lucinda Coxon.
Kidman recently won an Oscar for her role as a lesbian in The Hours, and Paltrow’s character in Shakespeare in Love disguised herself as a man to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
