New details have come to light about the death of Liam Payne, the lead singer of One Direction, who fell to his death from a hotel balcony.
According to TMZ, Liam Payne was trying to escape his hotel when he fell to his death, according to new evidence bolstered by new witnesses, a police report, a 911 call and surveillance video.
According to reports, Liam hated being locked in hotel rooms…something he had to deal with during his time in One Direction. He’s used the balcony escape plan before, most recently in mid-September when sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … Liam’s bodyguard became concerned that he might be on drugs and forced him into a room at a rental home in Florida. Liam escaped from a balcony, using a garden hose to reach the ground.
The hotel’s security cameras show Liam, who was in the lobby under the influence of alcohol. Three employees lead him back to his room and manage to lock him inside. It is noted that the toxicology tests showed that he was under the influence of substances. Liam is clearly conscious, holding his head up.
And, just 2 minutes before he was taken away, Liam was standing in the lobby.
When the hotel staff took Liam to his room, he fought with them…clearly he didn’t want to go in.
Nevertheless, the hotel used a lock to get into the room, let Liam in, and according to a police report obtained by TMZ, they removed a mirror from the wall just outside his room, apparently to prevent destroy him.
It’s obvious Liam told the staff he didn’t want to be in the room and was going to use the balcony as an escape because one of the staff called 100 minutes later and said he was afraid he might use the balcony and accidentally hurt himself. According to the 911 transcript, the hotel employee said, “I don’t know if his life might be in danger. It’s in a room with a balcony and, well, we’re a little scared…’.
Police also found a hat on or near Liam’s body. The hat says … he must have worn it inside the room, because he didn’t wear it in the lobby.
Liam appears to have been attempting to cross from the 3rd floor balcony to the 2nd floor balcony and then jump a short distance to the ground. This theory is supported by the police report, which states that 2 days after Liam’s death, a hotel employee went to the 2nd floor room directly below Liam’s room and discovered a brown leather bag (not the bag that was strapped to his shoulder) on the balcony with a note inside that said ‘for Liam’, along with various pills and a bottle of Jack Daniel’s. The report says the bag belonged to Liam. So, in all likelihood, he dropped the bag on the 2nd floor balcony before attempting to fall himself.
The coroner says Liam may have been unconscious when he fell, but he was clearly conscious when he strapped the bag over his shoulder inside his room and walked up to the balcony.
