As Bartoníček from Aktuálně.cz said, it is becoming more expensive than pleasant in Prague. “I walk around Prague, I think to myself that I would like to have something somewhere, buy something, I would like to sit down somewhere, but I look at the prices and say to myself: Dude, they’re bats, I’m just not doing. I don’t have enough, am I even in the Czech Republic? ” he paused.
According to him, many people in the middle and lower class are in a similar situation in the Czech Republic which is most affected by price changes, but he does not want to blame anyone in particular. “I don’t draw any conclusions from it, I don’t blame anybody, I just tell it based on how I talk to people and look at it the life around me,” he said.
He himself is now carefully considering what he spends his money on. “I have to work harder and better so I can buy more … And I have to be more frugal. That’s fair,” he says of ways to deal with high prices.
I walk around Prague, I think I would like to have something somewhere, buy something, I would like to sit down somewhere, but I look at the prices and say to myself: Wow, they are bats, I just don’t have it, am I even in the Czech Republic?? 🙂
And an even later addition: I think that many people in our country are in a similar situation.…— Radek Bartonicek (@R_Bartonicek) November 27, 2024
What products he was afraid of the high prices, but he did not specifically mention. It started a debate among people whether the capital is really that expensive.
Michaela’s spokesperson confirmed the truth to Bartoníč and assured him that the price is not only a benefit of Prague. “Unfortunately, this is everywhere, and it really worries me too. My diet contains a lot of vegetables. I always get goosebumps when I see the prices, but I don’t need it yet and I’m trying to save, I don’t have any debt and my mortgage is paid off,” said the person – practices about how to manage her financial situation.

“Mr. Bartoníček, Prague is not just a wonderful Slovakia, it is a big city. You can’t look in the shop windows on Pařížská and you want to have a beer somewhere on Staromák. When you complain like that, it seems that only ‘Fyjal’s misery’ is missing. For example, Janek Rubeš will definitely advise you,” another assistant to the debate told the journalist, referring to the Prague reporter Rubeš.

There was also simple advice like: “Don’t go to Prague without money.”
But also against opinions that Prague is not expensive. People encouraged Bartonik that he should specify what he means by “expensive”, because everyone can think of different price levels under it.

In the second half of 2024, prices in the Czech Republic are still rising, which has had a significant impact on the cost of living. Although inflation is showing a slight slowdown, high prices in areas such as housing, food and energy are still a problem for many Czech households.
