Ricky Starks was removed from the GCW shows he was booked for.

Ricky Starks will not be wrestling in GCW in the coming weeks.

Independent promotion Game Changer Wrestling announced Tuesday that it has removed Ricky Starks from its upcoming shows. Starks was officially announced for the Highest In The Room show scheduled for December 14, where he was scheduled to face Matt Cardona. Two other dates were planned but not yet announced: Starks was booked for a December 28 show in Seattle and at the Hammerstein Ballroom on January 19.

Ricky Starks had already made an appearance on GCW on November 23 to tease his arrival in Brett Lauderdale’s promotion, while AEW is not using him at the moment. As his contract allows him, the wrestler can however work on the independent circuit with the agreement of AEW.

The reason for this turnaround, while many fans were excited to see Starks back in the ring, may well have been due to a blunder by independent wrestler and GCW regular Effy. According to Fightful, this withdrawal of Ricky Starks would be a decision by All Elite Wrestling after Effy’s comments, attacking Tony Khan’s promotion for his choice to take over the Hammerstein Ballroom in December, as GCW will do in January.

“There is no buzz, no appeal and we have taken advantage of the fact that we have had to run a profitable business for the last few years to continue to exist. » blurts Effy in her own podcast. “We don’t have as much support. I would argue that GCW can’t operate on a $40 million deficit and still put on shows, but some of us have the privilege of being able to operate on a $40 million deficit. Brett [Lauderdale] doesn’t own a football team, Brett doesn’t have a father paying him to stay away. I don’t want this to get personal, but you’re not the only ones in town. »

Ricky Starks has not commented on the situation. As a reminder, his contract with AEW ends in spring 2025. His appearance at House of Glory in January is still on the schedule.
