In the early hours of November 24, an armed attack was recorded inside the nightclub known as ‘DBar’ in Villahermosa, Tabasco, which left six dead and at least ten people injured.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, confirmed through social networks the start of an operation from the federal cabinet, in coordination with state authorities, to clarify what happened.
During a press conference, Deputy Prosecutor Gilberto Melquiades Miranda pointed out that the attack would not be related to organized crime activities, but rather “could have other aspects of problems that arose internally.”
According to the first reports from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the gunmen planned to attack a specific person, so the other five fatalities would have been “collateral damage.” Of the total number of civilians killed, five died on the spot, while one more lost his life while being transferred for medical care. It is presumed that all of the deceased would be over 20 years of age.
“Armed people entered that place looking for a specific person and the people who were near that area were also affected, unfortunately,” said Deputy Prosecutor Miranda.
Testimonies collected by the local press indicate that it was shortly before four in the morning when an armed commando arrived at the establishment, located on Paseo La Choca avenue. Once inside the bar, the alleged hitmen attacked the attendees.
A recording captured by civilians who, at the time the massacre occurred, was in the bar’s bathroom was released through social networks. When leaving the property, they took a video to show the conditions in which the establishment was found after the events. In the audiovisual material you can see the bodies of several people, who had gunshot wounds.
The authorities received the report at 03:53 hours on this date, so police elements were deployed to cordon off the area. Subsequently, FGE personnel arrived to begin collecting evidence, as well as recovering the bodies.
Regarding the injured people, a total of at least ten were confirmed, who were transferred to the Ángeles, Rovirosa and del Sureste hospitals. Of the group of five injured people who have already been identified, four had gunshot wounds.
Until nine in the morning, the surroundings of the ‘DBar’ were kept under guard by elements of Public Security and experts from the Prosecutor’s Office.
Because the attackers fled immediately after perpetrating the massacre, the number of people who would be involved is unknown, as well as their identities and the motive for the events.
