On Wednesday, the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) detained the former Minister of Agriculture, the former head of SLD and a current member of the PZU management. According to the information so far, Wojciech Olejniczak is one of six people against whom this procedure has been initiated.
“The case concerns crimes of an economic nature. “Details after completion of the activities, including presentation of charges” – this is officially known from the prosecutor’s office. Media speculations suggest irregularities related to granting a loan to Zakłady Mięsne Kania by Alior Bank, owned by PZU. Wojciech Olejniczak was then the director of Alior.
As Radio Eska finds out all those detained are employees of Alior Bank — from the department reporting to Wojciech Olejniczak.
PZU about the detention of Wojciech Olejniczak
The matter of Wojciech Olejniczak’s detention was quickly but briefly commented on by PZU representatives.
“PZU SA today received information – available in the public domain – regarding the detention of Wojciech Olejniczak, a member of the Supervisory Board delegated to temporarily perform the duties of a member of the Management Board. From the knowledge we have, the detention has nothing to do with the business activities of PZU SA, and concerns the professional activity of Wojciech Olejniczak in the period 2016-2019, several years before joining the Supervisory Board of PZU SA,” we read in the announcement.
It is worth noting, however, that PZU has had a significant stake in Alior Bank since spring 2015.
PZU describes the members of the Supervisory Board Wojciech Olejniczak as a person associated with the financial sector since 2015first as an advisor to the President of the National Bank of Poland, and then in 2016-2019 as director of the agro business department at Alior Bank. From 2019, he was associated with the mBank Group (Investment Banking Division).
