It’s a start to the season in line with the club’s expectations. “We are satisfied but not completely satisfied” assures Michaël Toti, the coach of Spartans arrived this summer from another Nationale 2 club, the Tremblay athletic basketball club. This former professional player, Ivorian international and French champion with Nanterre in 2011, is a demanding coach « constantly looking for areas of progressalways in exchange with the players ».
Voted best coach of Nationale 2 last season, since his arrival he has tried to instill a new state of mind with a different style of play “based on speed and sequences of efforts ». And the results follow: 3rd in the championship (Pool C) with seven victories for only two defeats and a fiery attack with 782 points scored, the 2nd best in the championship. Statistics which fuel the hope of moving up to Nationale 1 this season. Especially since the play-offs have disappeared from NM2 this year. To move up to the next level, all you have to do is finish at the top of your group.
Objectives: build and train
Upon his arrival, the Cergy-Pontoise club gave two objectives to Michaël Toti: access the Men’s National 1 as quickly as possible and rely on training to remain efficient at the highest level.
For this, the coach can count on the pool of young players in Île-de-France and on recruits like the promising Mathéo Cauwet who joined the Spartans armada this summer. Member of the French U23 3×3 basketball team, this 21-year-old winger, trained in Rouen, is coming off an excellent season in NM2 with Gravenchon, with an average of 16 points per game.
A great catch, especially since Gravenchon is a direct opponent of the Spartans for the climb with Laval and Val de Seine. These four clubs also occupy the first four places in the hen C.
