The provinces along the coast are most at risk, with particularly intense winds, while gusts between 100 and 130 km/h are expected in Amsterdam. The wind force in the city is not expected to exceed level 9 and the probability of an hour of force 10 winds (strong storm) is 20%, the weather portal says.
If this happened, it would be the first time since Poly, which hit during the summer of 2023: on that occasion, gusts of up to 146 km/h were recorded at the IJmuiden weather station.
These are the forecasts for the storm: in the afternoon, the wind will initially blow from the south, progressively increasing in intensity. By late afternoon, winds will rotate from southwest to west, reaching strength 8 along the west coast and becoming (very) strong in the internal areas.
On the coasts, gusts between are expected 80 e 95 km/h already in the last hours of the afternoon.
In the evening, the wind will shift further to the northwest, bringing the storm’s maximum impact between 6pm and 9pm. West Coast: High probability (about 70%) of strong winds 9 (storm). Possible temporary achievement of strength 10 (strong storm). If the wind maintained this intensity for a full hour, it would be a severe storm (with a 20% chance) Gusts: Generally between 80 e 100 km/h over much of the country. In coastal regions, possibility of very intense gusts up to approx 110 km/h.
In light of the increasing frequency and intensity of severe weather āevents, how is theā£ Netherlands investing inā long-term strategiesā for climate resilience andā¤ adaptation?
