(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 26 – “I hope that the Italians, our greatest supporters in the past, return to Somalia and reinvigorate the Somali economy”: Ali Mohamed Omar, Foreign Minister of Somalia, told ANSA during the X edition of ‘Rome Med – Mediterranean Dialogues’, event organized by Farnesina and Ispi. “In the last two years we have made enormous economic progress”, he added, speaking of the changes recorded in the capital Mogadishu and of an advancement “led mainly by the private sector”, also underlining the role of the “Somali diaspora, which is returning with knowledge and resources” . Regarding security in the country and in the region, the Somali minister declared that “the long-term solution is to support Somalia and Yemen” in aid of their respective governments and their infrastructure. The Houthis, in fact, give “support to Al-Shabaab in terms of technology and weapons supplies”, therefore the Yemeni group “has a direct impact on Somalia from an economic and security point of view” adding to the “terrorist” elements already present in Somalia, including ISIS.
