The PP proposes a new regulatory framework to combat attacks in Health – Democratic

he is The People’s Party registered in the Congress of Deputy Ministers a Law proposal to stop violence in the field of health. To protect health professionals, they recommend measures such as group insurance contracts that cover potential legal costs from conflicts, the installation of video surveillance systems and the obligation to have prevention plans.

The International Labor Organization recognizes workplace violence as an occupational hazard that must be prevented and avoided. As for health professionals, due to the nature of their work, they are particularly exposed to passive attacks and situations of violence. For this reason, the Popular Group wants to report a specific regulatory framework which protects them and offers and reinforces security, both in the public and private sectors.

Obligations of Employers

The purpose of the initiative is to regulate minimum and basic measures to be implemented by the employer in the workplace.

One of them is the responsibility have a prevention planprepared after consultation with the workers themselves. They must also communicate programs to maintain the involvement of health professionals and assess the risks depending on factors such as:

  • Support for patients with a history of addiction.
  • Home health care.
  • Environmental poverty.
  • Access to exits.
  • Patient waiting time

Measure

The text put forward by the PP suggests that there are structural measures such as video surveillance systems in halls, waiting rooms and entrances; audible warning devices.

It also recommends active measures such as including in the the patient’s medical history if you have a history of violence; and organizational such as reducing waiting times, the ratio, avoiding stressful situations and implementing more appropriate protocols to deal with family members and patients.

To ensure that the planned plans are adhered to, the employer will nominate staff who will be responsible for doing this. The appointment of representatives for the prevention of violence in the field of health will be the responsibility of members of the corresponding group of unitary representation of workers.

They are always popular with healthcare professionals the assertion of truth in cases where the act of denial was done in a reserved place or without witnesses.

Likewise, acts of violence will be considered occupational accidents and health professionals will be entitled to the psychological support they need.

Insurance

The employer must take out insurance which guarantees workers who are victims of an act of violence the free legal services they need to defend and recover their damages, as well as compensation for physical or mental damages which results.

Registration and campaigns

The campaign, if successful, would guarantee the Ministry of Health to create a National Register in which all incidents of violence would be recorded, identifying the victim and the aggressor.

Finally, the Ministry of Social Economy and Labourtogether with Health, create a National Observatory against Violence in the field of health; and awareness campaigns would be promoted by the Government every two years.
