Judith
Judith was 25 when she stopped taking the pill. After a year of ‘trying’ she still wasn’t pregnant and went to the doctor. He could not find an explanation for it. She underwent treatments for almost four years – IVF, IUI and ICI – in the Netherlands and Belgium. IUI resulted in three miscarriages. “I started looking into my lab results. I saw a low value in DHEA (body’s own hormone, ed.). In Germany I had researched and started IVF and supplementing with DHEA. I got pregnant through IUI between two IVF attempts. After that I got pregnant twice by taking extra DHEA. Now I am a proud mother of three children.”
In total, Judith’s journey lasted nearly eight years. “I think it’s very important to say that those years felt like one a never ending storybut now it seems that they have passed by. I suffered a lot from the mental pressure I put on myself, but also that I felt in society. Everything in the Netherlands is based on mothers and children – just think of the crossing sign at the zebra crossing. I didn’t get mental help from the hospital, so I sought help myself. It was really sad for me that no one took care of the painful mental burden.”
Mental support
So Daphne and Judith offer this mental support on their platform. Judith: “A few years ago, Daphne started sharing with her followers on Instagram about her IVF treatment with egg donation. This is how she built an online community. I always thought: if it happened to me… happy ending Yes, I want to do something to help other women. When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I retrained myself and took a course to coach anyone who can’t get pregnant. My sister-in-law put us together because we have the same vision. We clicked immediately. “
“We started FertiFriend nights in Amsterdam to bring women together. It wasn’t long until we received requests from women from other parts of the country to attend. That’s why we started with online sessions. A safe environment is one of our core values. After the sessions at home the bed fits well with this. Then we started thinking: how can we make it even wider? We have been live since November 4th with the website and everything we offer on it. A few women became friends at one of the FertiFriend nights. We can’t get a bigger compliment, it proves how necessary this is. “
Together is less than alone
It is clear that the platform is very popular. The positive reactions are entering. “We are so proud and proud. All the doctors who stuck their necks out to help us are also very happy with the result. Now it’s important that women find their way to the stage.”
Both want to help as many people as possible. Daphne: “We want everyone who is not pregnant to feel that they are not alone. There is a taboo about it, and we want to break that. Judith said: “The aim is to create a place where knowledge, hope and support in fertility meet. With a good dose of knowledge and mental strength, we take on the challenge of fertility together. Together is less than alone. “

Talk about it
Daphne and Judith want to say to women dealing with fertility challenges: “Find people you can talk to. At first I didn’t talk about it, but after a while I was open and that gave me a lot. Many women keep it to themselves. Try talking, it helps,” advises Daphne.
“And don’t underestimate,” said Judith. “Give room to what it will bring. There is a lot going on in the body and mind. Be kind to yourself.”
