Aaron Rodgers said he hasn’t made a decision yet about his future in the NFL next season. But if he decides to continue his career, it will be with the New York Jets.
The star quarterback, who will turn 41 next Monday, denied recent reports suggesting that he wants to play next season – with a team other than the Jets.
“I came here to win, so I’m not going to jump ship,” Rodgers said Tuesday on the ‘Pat McAfee Show.’ I don’t know if I want to continue my career, but (if I do) New York would be my first choice.”
‘The Athletic’ reported last week that Rodgers had already decided to continue his career next season, specifying that he wanted to join another team. He and the Jets are 3-8 so far this season, and owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh last month and replaced him with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Johnson also fired general manager Joe Douglas last Tuesday.
Rodgers recently told reporters, “Yeah, I think so,” when asked if he wanted to continue his career next season. His response, however, came before Johnson made another change to the Jets’ management.
“As for my future, I haven’t told anyone that I want to play in 2025 with any team but the Jets,” Rodgers said. All this is 100% wrong. I even said the opposite. I said I’m going to wait and see what happens at the end of the campaign, whether they still want me, what happens to ‘Brick’, the attackers and obviously with the situation of the general director. They were just shooting Joe.
“I have no control over what happens now. But I have really enjoyed my time so far in New York. In fact, we have not yet seen the results we were hoping for,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ulbrich confirmed Monday that Rodgers will “absolutely” be the Jets’ starting quarterback Sunday at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
