Master’s degree: Religious sciences and society-History and historiography of the Jewish worlds
Organized in partnership with the EPHE-PSL (master CCS, History and culture of Jews and Judaism: sources and heritage and master SRS, History and historiography of the Jewish worlds) and the INaLCO (master LLCER, Hebrew and Jewish studies), this introductory course in the history of the Jews intended mainly for master’s students, presents over a long period of time, from Antiquity to the present, the cultural, political and social processes which led to the constitution and maintenance of Jewish groups in their diversity and environments while opening up to particular fields of history. It pays particular attention to the main currents which have crossed them and includes a historiographical and methodological approach on several temporal and geographical spaces: Orient, Northern and Eastern Europe, Maghreb and Middle East. Specialists from each geographical space, historical period or school of thought will thus offer summaries on current research questions, including its methodology.
