Many car owners are interested in whether it is possible to reduce the cost of changing engine oil without affecting the durability of the engine. Using cheap oil and filters is a recipe for expensive repairs, but what about flushing the engine before adding new oil?

Motor oil
Expert on the portal “Behind the wheel” Mikhail Kolodochkin he told how correct this procedure was, which was previously considered mandatory, but which now raises questions.
In the past, when most cars used mineral oil, an engine flush was a normal part of an oil change. Mineral oil did not contain modern cleaning agents, so dirt and deposits accumulated on engine parts quickly, especially when using low-quality fuel. To eliminate these contaminants, special flushing oils were used.
The process was simple: the used oil was drained, fluid oil was added without replacing the filter, the engine was started at idle for 5-10 minutes, after the flow was drained, the filter was changed and new oil was added.
Today, with the spread of synthetic oils, the need to flush has disappeared. Modern synthetic oils have cleaning properties thanks to special additives that prevent the formation of deposits. When you use high-quality oil and replace it regularly every 7-10 thousand kilometers, the engine remains clean.
Experts also recommend paying attention to the quality of the fuel. Even the best oil will not protect the engine if the fuel is of poor quality. Impurities such as paraffins can thicken the oil, like grease, which can adversely affect engine performance. By choosing certified gas stations and high quality oil, you reduce the need for an engine flush and protect your car from costly breakdowns.

* Considering the potential downsides and costs associated with engine flushing, is it more beneficial to rely on regular oil changes and high-quality fuel to maintain engine cleanliness and performance?
This article discusses whether engine flushing is still necessary in modern cars.
Here’s a breakdown of the information and some potential discussion points:
**Key Points from the Article:**
* **Mineral Oil vs. Synthetic Oil:** Older cars used mineral oil which required flushing because it didn’t have cleaning agents. Modern synthetic oils have additives that prevent deposit buildup, making flushing largely unnecessary.
* **Regular Oil Changes:** Changing your oil regularly (every 7-10 thousand kilometers according to the article) is the most effective way to keep your engine clean and performing well.
* **Fuel Quality:** Even the best oil can be compromised by low-quality fuel. Impurities in fuel can thicken oil, negatively affecting engine performance.
**Open-Ended Discussion Questions:**
* **Necessity of Flushing:** Do you think engine flushing is ever necessary for modern vehicles, or is it an outdated practice?
* **Cost vs. Benefit:** Is the potential benefit of engine flushing worth the cost, considering that regular oil changes are generally sufficient?
* **Mechanics and Flushing:** Do you trust mechanics who recommend engine flushing? Could it be a way for them to increase profits?
* **Fuel Quality and Engine Health:** How important is fuel quality for the longevity of your engine? Are you willing to pay more for premium fuel to protect your engine?
* **Alternatives to Flushing:**
[1]: Does the Diesel engine flush actually work? | BobIsTheOilGuy Couldn’t you just get something like the Liqui-Moly Engine Flush treatment or the like and be done with it? Seems it would be easier and safer doing it that way. Are you flushing because of noisy valvetrain/internals or just a piece of mind thing? Honestly if it’s quiet I’d just do shorter OCI intervals and be done with it. URL: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/does-the-diesel-engine-flush-actually-work.294181/
are there any effective, less invasive ways to clean an engine besides flushing?
These questions encourage a discussion about best practices for car maintenance and the often confusing world of automotive advice.
