Strong winds and heavy rain caused problems in Epirus in the evening, with the fire service responding to a total of 28 incidents due to the bad weather.
26 tree fellings
Specifically, 26 tree cuttings were carried out throughout the region: 7 in the prefecture of Arta, 8 in the prefecture of Preveza, 6 in the prefecture of Thesprotia and 5 in the prefecture of Ioannina. In addition, it was necessary to pump 1 water from the ground floor of a hotel unit in Metsovo and 1 stabilization of an awning in a house in Arta, which had become detached with the risk of falling on passers-by.
Landslides in the road network of Ioannina
There are several landslides recorded by the heavy rains of the last few hours on the road network of the Prefecture of Ioannina.
Civil Protection has activated seven machines since early in the morning in order to remove stones and other portable materials from the areas of Pogoni, Konitsa, Zagori and Tzoumerki.
The authorities, both the Region and the Municipalities, remain alert to deal with other problems that may arise.
Problems in the electrification of the whole of Epirus
There are several damages that have been caused to the electricity supply network throughout Epirus. Areas have been without power since Friday night when strong winds swept everything.
Two faults in the network in the Municipality of Pogoni and one in the network of the Municipality of Zitsa, which also supplies villages in Thesprotia, still keep several villages without electricity.
DEDDIE crews have been working since the morning to deal with the problems.
Also, several, but isolated damages, are recorded in the villages of the Municipality of Dodoni, for which crews are also working.

## Epirus Faces Fury of Nature: A Discussion on the Impacts of the Recent Storms
**Introduction:**
Good evening, and welcome to World-Today-News. Tonight, we delve into the recent severe weather event that impacted the Epirus region of Greece. We have two esteemed guests joining us tonight to shed light on the situation:
* **Dr. Maria Papadopoulos,** a meteorologist specializing in extreme weather events.
* **Mr. Dimitri Kotsis,** the mayor of a village heavily impacted by the storms in Epirus.
**Section 1: Understanding the Storm**
* **[To Dr. Papadopoulos]** Welcome, Dr. Papadopoulos. Could you elaborate on the specific meteorological conditions that led to this intense storm in Epirus? What factors contributed to the severity of the winds and rainfall?
* **[To Dr. Papadopoulos]** We often hear about climate change’s potential to intensify weather events. Do you see any connection between this storm and broader climate change trends?
**Section 2: Impact on Infrastructure**
* **[To Mr. Kotsis]** Mr. Kotsis, as someone on the front lines of this storm, could you describe the immediate impact the heavy rains and high winds had on your village’s infrastructure?
* **[To both guests]** The article mentions extensive damage to the electricity grid in Epirus. What are the long-term consequences of such disruptions, particularly for rural communities? How can infrastructure be made more resilient to withstand future events like this?
**Section 3: Emergency Response and Recovery**
* **[To Mr. Kotsis]** How effective was the emergency response in your village? Were there any particular challenges faced by responders due to the nature of the storm?
* **[To both guests]** What steps can be taken to improve community preparedness and response to future extreme weather events? What role can individuals play in preparing for and mitigating the impact of such events?
**Section 4: Looking Ahead**
* **[To both guests]** This event highlights the vulnerability of certain regions to extreme weather. What measures can be taken at both the regional and national levels to address these vulnerabilities and build resilience?
* **[To Dr. Papadopoulos]** What can we expect in terms of future weather patterns and the likelihood of similar events occurring in Epirus? Are there any specific areas of concern?
**Closing:**
Thank you both for sharing your valuable insights. This discussion underscores the urgency of
addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change and extreme weather events. We
hope this conversation has shed light on the situation in Epirus and sparked dialogue
about building more resilient communities for the future. We’ll be right back after a short break.
