Career guidance as the key to acquiring skilled workers

At the invitation of the Saxon State Ministry of Culture, the regional coordination offices met in the Pirna district office today, Tuesday, November 26, 2024. These meetings take place twice a year and offer high -a platform for exchanging current topics related to careers and education. The aim is to share experiences and establish networks beyond the borders of the area.

This time the focus was on educational research at the transition between school and work, the priorities for the educational year 2025 and the current situation on the training market from the perspective of the Saxon chambers. It became clear that there is a great need from companies, especially in the professional group of butchers, but that it is difficult to hire trainers.

A promising step to promote apprenticeships and professional guidance is the new project called “Late Shift – On the Road to Business”, which will start next year.

“Late shift” – a look at the local economy

The “Late Shift” project is organized by the economic development department of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains region in cooperation with the Dresden Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the South Saxony Regional Trade Association.

Between January and May 2025, 24 companies from various industries and social institutions in the area will open their doors to interested visitors. Not only do they get interesting behind-the-scenes insights into the companies’ work processes, but they also learn about their history, achievements and contributions.

There is a particular focus on presenting open positions, training opportunities and career opportunities. The project aims to encourage young people and career changers to take up positions in the area and thus contribute to securing the next generation of skilled workers.

The “late move” offers an innovative platform to specifically connect business and skilled workers in the area.
