Russian attackers shot five bystanders captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Pokrovsky’s side. Ukraine has launched an investigation into a war crime related to premeditated killings.
According to preliminary data, in November 2024, Russian residents blocked the position of the Defense Forces of Ukraine near the village of Petrovka, Pokrovsky region. As a result of the attack, five Ukrainian defenders were forced to retreat and take shelter in a private house.
After surrounding the building, the Russian military captured the Ukrainian fighters, forcing them to leave the shelter unarmed and lie on the ground. However, in gross violation of international humanitarian law, the residents shot the prisoners with automatic weapons.
Investigative activities are now being carried out to establish the circumstances of the crime and the people involved in its commission.
The execution of prisoners of war is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which is considered a serious war crime. Ukrainian law enforcement officials are working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
