Greece – M. Britain 77-67: The “Euroleagues” cleaned up –

The experienced players who came from Olympiakos, Panathinaikos helped the National team to achieve the victory it needed to essentially secure the qualification to next year’s Eurobasket: 77-67 Great Britain.

The match took place in front of 8,000 fans at the packed PAOK stadium in Pylaia. At halftime, the score was 40-32.

The Greek team couldn’t break away early, although they forced the British into many mistakes. Vangelis Zougris made it 38-30 with back-to-back baskets, Michalis Lountzis increased the difference to 47-34 with three pointers.

The visitors came within shooting distance again (61-58 from 57-48), but Naz Mitrou-Long gave the National team a new boost and Kostas Papanikolaou gave the British a free throw (77-62 in the 38th minute).
The National team appeared strengthened with Kostas Papanikolaou (14 points, 9 points, 7 assists), Panagiotis Kalaitzakis (14 points) and Giannoulis Larentzakis (8 points). Vassilis Toliopoulos, who was the leading scorer on Thursday in London (where the National team lost 73-72), was left without a point tonight.

Naz Mitrou-Long scored 12 points and Nikos Hougaz 9. They were used by Vassilis Spanoulis and Lountzis 8, Moraitis, Kouseloglou 4, Zougris 8, Avdalas, while Tanoulis did not play.

From Britain, Hesson 14, Ellis 13, Olaseni 12, Whelan 10, Whittle 9 stood out.

In the Group’s other Game 4 game, the Dutch defeated the Czechs in The Hague 77-70. The score: Greece 3-1, Czech Republic 2-2, M. Britain 2-2, Netherlands 1-3.

In its last two games, the national team will face the Czech Republic away from home and the Netherlands at home in February. The first three teams of the Group will qualify for the finals.

EuroBasket 2025 will be held in four countries (Latvia, Cyprus, Poland, Finland), however the Greek team will have the role of an organizational “partner” of the Cypriots, so it will certainly compete in the Limassol Group, with an opening date of August 28. The finals are scheduled to take place in Riga between 5-14 September 2025.
