The new season of ‘Zeeman Confronteert’ started on Monday night with an intense episode. Thijs Zeeman (42) knows better than anyone how far stalkers can go, but even the hairs on the back of his neck are standing up because of the stalking habits that a widower 57- year Saskia deal.
“That man wants to destroy me”
Saskia lost her husband Peter in late 2020, who died of metastatic lung cancer. There was no time to mourn in peace, because from 2021 she had to deal with an anonymous stalker. She receives phone calls, text messages and letters in which she receives insults and even death threats. From ‘galla’ and ‘silver grubber’ to ‘whore’ and ‘gold digger’. And from ‘pretending you loved Peter, you only loved his money’ to threats of rape and murder. As she says the police are ‘too busy’ to handle her case, she raises the alarm with Thijs and his team.
“That person wants to destroy me,” concludes Saskia, who says she ended up in a ‘very bad movie’. “They know how to hit me straight,” she tells Thijs in tears. She suspects that the stalker is someone close to her. “That person knows everything about me. There is also a letter: ‘We are going to toast your deceased son. (…) That was 23 years ago. [Toen] I was seven months pregnant [en] I lost my first child.”
Her sister Sylvia has also been miserable for several months with similar messages and voicemails in which the music played at Peter’s funeral can be heard.
Why would anyone want to make Saskia pay like that? “I feel jealousy and hatred,” she shares with Thijs. “I’m doing well, I could buy my house with the money I could sell the house for him, what was left of him. I’m doing too well, I think, and someone can’t be that.”
Thijs is looking for a starting point to enter the stalking case. Yes: both Saskia and Sylvia point out that her sister-in-law’s husband – Peter’s sister, that is – seems to be upsetting Saskia. According to Saskia, that man, named Jay, once told her “as a joke” that he liked her more than his own wife. Jay also received a teddy bear delivered on Valentine’s Day, which Saskia promptly threw in the trash can. And he becomes more persistent: he even wrote Saskia a love letter.
Reason enough for Thijs and his team to take a closer look at him as a possible stalker. And then it will be very successful. When he looks at the main suspect Jay, he shows suspicious driving and parking behavior and they confront him. Add to that the appearance of handwriting and it is clear that he is the one who sends the terrible messages to Saskia and waits for her for hours in his car at the cemetery where Peter found the his final resting place.
When Thijs confronts Jay, he refuses to talk to him. He then says that he has hired a lawyer because Saskia has ‘destroyed all his relationships’. He also says he had sex with Saskia. Thijs is not fooled. “You’ve been exposed as a stalker,” he corrects Jay, also warning him of the legal consequences of his absurd actions.
When Thijs spoke to Jay on the phone a few days after the confrontation, the man continued to deny his stalking habits. Through his lawyer he claims he was accused of stalking and was lured into a trap by Saskia. But the research of Thijs observers is clear. Be that as it may, Saskia has not been worried since Thijs helped her.
Sailor against can be seen every Monday at 8:30 pm on RTL 5 and can be seen again on Videoland.
