“On Sunday, the left-wing and progressive citizens with their participation in the ballot box will give an answer to the plans to discredit and dissolve SYRIZA-PS”, Rania Svigou emphasized, in her interview with the television station ACTION24 and the journalist Seraphim Kotrotsos. And he added that “those who think they will finish with SYRIZA, have illusions and delusions”.
Regarding the elections for the presidency of SYRIZA-PS, he underlined that “it is an open process, and we call on every left-wing and democratic citizen to support it”, while when asked about the turnout, he emphasized that “at the moment, there is a very big rally in the ranks of SYRIZA”. As he characteristically said, “the left-wing citizens will also give a resounding response to what we have seen in the last few days, which resulted in a politically immoral act, that of apostasy”.
In response to a question about the loss of the position of opposition officer, due to the independence of MPs, Rania Svigou underlined that “it is an act that has no precedent in Greek political annals”, and that “no one has the right to violate in such a way the will of the Greek people”. He recalled that “in the elections, 930 thousand citizens voted for SYRIZA, that is 300,000 more than PASOK”, and that “SYRIZA should currently have 47 MPs”. And he added with emphasis, that “the Greek people are the ones who determine the order of the parties, who will be the government, and who will be the official opposition”.
Responding to the statements of those who left the KO of SYRIZA-PS, Rania Svigou underlined that “it is an oxymoron to invoke intra-party democracy, with lies and slander, in order to violate democracy, as expressed by the vote of the Greek people in elections”.
Regarding the possibility of other departures from K.O. of the party, Rania Svigou emphasized that “SYRIZA is turning a page, it will emerge stronger from Sunday’s ballot box and all the MPs will realize this”. When asked about the possible departure of Evangelos Apostolakis from the parliamentary group, Rania Svigou expressed her belief that as a regional parliamentarian, and with everything he has offered to the country, he will not follow such a path. And he continued by underlining that “we have a very critical mission in the next period, because we may not formally be an official opposition, but we must honor all those who still put their hopes in SYRIZA, against a government that is socially insensitive, facing internal problems and cannot answer the problems of everyday life”.
Because, as he characteristically said, “only SYRIZA-PS can be a strong, reliable, militant opposition and not an opposition that will be convenient to the system. And precisely for this reason, because we were not and will not be an opposition convenient to the system, there are plans to liquidate and devalue it.”
He noted that “at this moment, arguments are being used that were used mostly by the anti-SYRIZA front and various post-institutional centers, in the period 2015-19, for Mati, for the Referendum, for capital controls, which we see today being invoked some who were previously in SYRIZA”. As he characteristically said, “objectively, regardless of intentions, at this moment a plan is being served to discredit, dissolve, disintegrate SYRIZA-PS”, emphasizing that “this plan will be answered by the left-wing, progressive citizens in practice”.
The Secretary of K.E. of SYRIZA-PS emphasized that “all the image we presented in the previous period does injustice to our history and everything we have to offer from now on”. And he continued by underlining that, “what is important from now on is that the left and progressive citizens who really got sidelined in the last period by watching on television something that really did not concern them, take the case of SYRIZA into their own hands.”
Finally, to a question regarding the greeting of Alexis Tsipras at the presentation of the book by A. Kotsaka and H. Cioka, Rania Svigou noted that “Alexis Tsipras is a member of parliament, active in matters, he is a capital for the Left and the progressive space, both in our country and in Europe, he says what he wants to say, at the time he wants himself to say so, and is present in the wider developments of both SYRIZA and the progressive space as a whole”.
